The aim of Champions of Lough Devnaree is to find the Champions in the noble martial disciplines and arts &sciences for the coming year. The responsibility of the Champion is to run the activity that he/she has won at the next Champions
Should the victor of a competition not be a resident of Lough Devnaree, they instead become the Defender of Lough Devnaree for that particular area.
The next highest scoring resident of Lough Devnaree will become the Champion.
The current Champions are
Fencing – Baron Etienne Fevre de Dion
Heavy Fighting –Baron Etienne Fevre de Dion
Archery – Barún Pól O Briain
Arts and Sciences – Baroness Sagadis Duncansdottir
The format of the competitions to decide their successors will be as follows
Heavy Fighting
This is a heavy weapons tournament open to all authorised heavy fighters. It will be a round robin tournament. Every fighter will fight every other fighter.
Fencing
The Fencing Tournament will be a double elimination tournament over two list fields. It's open to all authorised fencers.
Archery
To be eligible to become Archery Champion of Lough Devnaree you must use a period bow and wooden arrows(plastic nocks are permitted for health and safety reasons). The shoot will consist of four rounds each consisting of two ends of five, shot at 10, 20, 30 and 40 yard ranges. Piority to shoot will be given on the day to those participating in the competition. Marshals' decision will be final.
There will be no sighters and the rounds will be shoot at the same target face (which is a window style target face based on one of windows in Carrickfergus castle).
The amount of points will increase as the distance increases. For each arrow in (line breaker inc) the number of points you get are as follows:
10 yrds = 1 Point
20 yrds = 3 Points
30 yrds = 6 Points
40 yrds = 10 Points
Arts & Sciences
This will be a judged competition where entries are submitted and evaluated by a judge with experience of the chosen topic
Documentation is required, and will be scored, but it can be minimum if you prefer: what the piece is, what period and place it is from, what the materials are, how you made it. Ideally you would have at least two references as well (author, book name, date and place of publication if available), but that is not strictly required for this competition. We promise that all our judges are housebroken and guaranteed not to savage any entrant. If you have been nervous about entering A&S competitions, this is a good one for getting your feet wet.
Also: if you don't have anything you want to enter, you might consider putting some artwork on display for the enjoyment and instruction of the populace.
Other Competitions
In addition to the Champions competition three other contests will be held which anyone can enter and anyone can win. They are:
Best Table Setting
Best Day Garb
Best Feast Garb
