Bardic Arts in Eplaheimr
Photos upcoming!!
One of the most memorable parts of our Monthly events is the Bardic Circle, which usually takes place after the feast.
The phrase ‘Bardic circle’ means a session of music, song, and or stories at an SCA gathering. Usually they are one of the most informal parts of an event. Period songs, and music are especially welcome but any song, performance, or music that does not evoke modern life is welcome.
We’re striving to create a nice historical atmosphere at our bardic circles. In good weather the clearing in the woods at potlucks gives a picturesque and thoroughly medieval feel to frame the evening. Inside under candle light the setting can be very encouraging for performances in the style we’re after.
Singers off all quality are encouraged, as are musicians, comedians, and other performers. The more authentic the piece the better but the main thing is to have fun in the period setting. Many period songs were very bawdy, so in keeping with the courteous nature of the society we ask people to keep such songs until late in the evening. We’re not prudes and such period songs are welcome, but only after younger ears have departed the fire.
If you like to entertain then please don’t be shy about standing up and performing. For some ideas and period music information check out these links.
